Project Details
The design intent of this building was to create an active, inviting and welcoming facility to the surrounding community and providing an enhanced athletic, cultural and spiritual place for the residents. The Center is located directly adjacent the city’s
park and library, which provide shared outdoor recreational and learning opportunities.
The building entry is oriented towards the north and east for prominence on the site and convenience to vistors. Through the main entry guest enter a two-story glass lobby from which the vistor may see the group fiteness studios, climbing wall, child watch area, cafe, gymnasium, indoor pool entry and community event halls. Large windows provide natural light to the interior spaces, and translucent skylights from above bring diffused light to the fitness area, similar to the existing gymnasium. Solatube daylighting solutions assist in bringing natural light into the office spaces, the Corps community education lobby, restrooms, and locker rooms. Extending from the entrance the main lobby space and galleria serve as the circulation pathway to the corps community rooms and chapel. Along the circulation path, comfortable seating groups, community art installations and a modest donor wall enliven the space and engage the visitor as they head to their destination. A secondary entry for special events in the Community Education Wing has been provided.
